Mindfulness silent practice day

 

 

Suitable for:

This day is suitable for people who have some prior experience of meditation, in the mindfulness tradition or other traditions. There will be guidance from the facilitator so it will not be just silent sitting, but there will be one or two periods of silent sitting for up to 20 minutes and guided practices for up to 30 minutes. Tea and lunch breaks will be conducted in silence.

What practices will be guided? Will there be any talking?

After introductions, we will go into silence and only Karin will speak mindfullly to guide the group in meditations to settle the mind and become aware of the body. When we become more settled, there will be longer periods of silence. Towards the end of the day, there will be a mindful sharing so we can share our experiences of the day before going home.

Will we be meditating for hours, sitting on the floor?

We will meditate for no longer than 15-30 minutes at a time. Chairs are available and most people choose to sit on chairs. Lying down is also possible if sitting becomes too much. We will incorporate gentle mindful moment and walking meditation, weather permitting. It will be physically undemanding and is suitable for people with physical disabilities and health problems.

Notes from the day?

You will be provided with emailed notes and suggested meditation practices for you to practice at home. But please feel free to bring a notebook and pen if you think you might like to take your own notes or write in your meditation journal.
